We understand that the news of SunPower’s recent bankruptcy filing can be concerning as an owner of SunPower solar panels and equipment. We want to take a moment to address some concerns and explain what it means for you as a customer of Cool Earth Solar. First and foremost, we want to assure you that your relationship with Cool Earth Solar remains strong and unaffected.

Cool Earth Solar provides a 10-year workmanship warranty on all of our design/build solar projects. This workmanship warranty will not be affected and is still fully intact. We stand by our commitment to quality and will continue to support and service you, our customer. Whether it’s maintenance, repairs, or general inquiries, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. Our team is here to help with any questions or concerns you may have.

We continue to believe that SunPower panels are a superior product, built to last and provide exceptional performance. In fact, all SunPower solar panel manufacturing has continued over the last few years under the name Maxeon. Maxeon is a standalone company, separate from SunPower Corporation, and is not associated with the bankruptcy filing. Cool Earth Solar has continued to use and offer Maxeon solar panels to our customers. With that, we are closely monitoring the situation with SunPower Corporation and will keep you informed of any developments that may impact you or your system’s warranty.

Below we have included a handful of FAQs that you may find helpful in the meantime:

Q: Does the SunPower Corporation bankruptcy affect Cool Earth Solar?

A: No. Cool Earth Solar is a separate entity with no financial affiliation with SunPower Corporation. However, we are deeply saddened by the news of the former industry leader’s downfall. We, at Cool Earth Solar, have been in business for over 17 years and are here for you.

Q: How do I know if my solar equipment was made by SunPower?

A: This information can be found on your original sales documents, but if you aren’t sure, just ask us!

Q: I think my solar equipment was made by SunPower. How does this affect me?

A: Right now, their bankruptcy does not impact you as a system owner. Since SunPower panels are built to last, we are not greatly concerned about your panels themselves. The impact on your product warranty is currently unknown, and we will update our customers when there is more visibility shared with us.

Q: My contract was directly with SunPower Corporation because I opted for a SunPower loan. What now?

A: While your contract may have been with SunPower, you are still a customer of Cool Earth Solar. We intend to honor a 10-year workmanship warranty with you just as we would a customer who signed Cool Earth contracts. If you’re still paying on your loan, that relationship with the bank should remain the same.

Q: What does this mean for my solar system monitoring? Will the SunPower app still be supported?

A: While we are still unsure what the long-term plan will be, we are told SunPower is working on a solution. All of their systems are still in place for now. Cool Earth Solar is currently researching alternative solutions we can offer customers if the SunPower platforms are no longer supported.
